You are a genius! No wonder I couldn't find him when I put in born in SC! Yes, the GA entry has to be incorrect. I also forgot that the now Okaloosa County, FL used to be Santa Rosa County, FL. So, the second one is the one we want. Jesse age 54. I found his wife Margaret's gravesite. She is not in the same cemetery as Jesse. She was evidently married previously to an AIKEN as the cemetery book says he married the widow Aiken. They also went from SC to Jackson MS before coming to Florida between 1838 and 1843. They were one of the first settlers here and his descendant said he laid claim to all the land between Pensacola and Tallahassee but couldn't get his sons to help him protect the claim. The entry for Jesse in the cemetery book mentions a Joseph Rogers, Sr is listed in Jackson MS as early as 1818 while Jesse was on the tax roll there in 1820. Maybe Joseph was his dad and he was in his household until 1820. (Just a thought)Rumors have Jesse have him on the ship with Lafit, Lafette....I can't spell his name today. I will have to look it up but am thinking he was sailing the Gulf of Mexico territory about 1812 time period. I need to buff up on history.
