Richard,
Thanks for your reply - I just now saw it. I think I have all you refer to and I'm still wondering if Maxwells' Bridge turned into Mattox Bridge. I supposedly have an ancestor that bought land bounding on Maxwells Br. just before 1800 - would really be something if this is true, as I grew up about a block from Brewerton School! I have ordered several things from the SCDAH, but still have found nothing to exactly pinpoint the location. I have found out that Swindles Br. was just a little less than 3 miles from Maxwells and the two men were quarreling over who got the tolls. I have the drawing of where it was resurveyed and this shows both bridges, but no land marks to identify anything. I have taken into consideration that it takes a road to get to the bridge and roads aren't built overnight, but they do change. About a 1/2 mile up the road from the road to Mattox Br. is another road that goes to the river, but the residents there have no bridge to cross the river, so have to come back to Hiway 25 and go right or left to find another way to cross over. So, it could be this at one time was Maxwells and it just faded away. I just can't document this either way and I have not yet found Beaverdam Ck. on a map in the right area.
