In Reply to: John Howell and daughter Temperance (Tempe) by Bill Chism of 1185

I am a descendant of Temperance Howell. In her application for a pension for the service of James Chism, in the War of 1812, she states that she was married in her father's house in Lauren's District, SC. She is called Tempa in the records.

There are many records in Monroe Co, MS on the Howells and Chisms. I wrote to the Evans Memorial Library there and they sent me an envelope of records. George W. Howell, Jr. wrote several articles, MONROE COUNTY AND HER PEOPLE, in the local paper. He had done a lot of Howell research. Abraham Howell, Tempe's brother lived there and he is well researched.

There are several records in Laurens Co with John Howell and John Chism named.

Have you seen the book, THE CHIZ, by John D. Chism, Jr?
