Simpsons of Laurens County

In the mid-1850's, Rev. Mr. Z.L. Holmes recorded a genealogy of the Simpson family of Laurens County, SC. In one section, he recorded that Alexander Simpson married Mary Hunter, a daughter of "Locksley" Hunter. It seems that he meant "Laughlin" Hunter, thus he wasn't sure of the true name. He then recorded the children of Alexander and Mary (Hunter) Simpson, all probably born in the late 1700 period, as Archibald, who never married; John, died young of snake bite; William; Hunter, who married Catherine "McCory;" and Mary. From what I have found, Alexander Simpson's will was filed in Laurens County in 1814. In it he named only sons John and James; daughters Agnes Dunlap, Mary Hutcheson (Hutchinson), and Margaret Glenn. There was no mention of any Hunter Simpson. I am searching for a Catherine McCrary, born about 1770, a daughter of Thomas and Letitia (Brandon) McCrary of Laurens County, and Holmes' name of "McCory" seems feasible to be Catherine McCrary, considering the other misspelled names. Further, there was no "McCory" anywhere in SC on the 1790 census, nor was there any "McCory" ever recorded in Laurens County later. If anyone can help me with "Hunter" Simpson and his wife, I'd appreciate it. Holmes may have used his local nickname.
