1892 Laurens County Murder Case

I have a relative who was murdered in 1892 returning from a visit to Georgia back to S C. There is some mystery for me that I hope someone can help me with. The story I heard was that he and a companion got into an argument with a man on a ferry crossing the Savannah River and my realtive was fatally shot and in turn his assailant was shot by his companion. It was near Sycamore, SC. I finally found a small write up about the incident in a Kershaw County paper (his home county)that stated he was murdered in Laurens County near Sycamore and the killer was at large. I know districts and counties have changed and evolved over the years. My question is would Sycamore have been considered in Laurens County at the time? Where would this case have been prosecuted if it ever was? Laurens just seems to be much too far from Sycamore for this to be accurate. Any ideas or info would be greatly appreciated. Ellen
