Below is a transcription of my gg-grandfather’s obituary published in The Jesup Sentinel, Jesup GA March 14, 1912:
Mr. J.M. Graham Dead (From Waynesville)
After a long and lingering illness Mr. J.M. Graham passed to the great unknown leaving behind him a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Graham was an earnest Christian man and his loss will be deeply felt by the community in which he has been well known for twenty-three years.
He was a member of the Baptist church having affiliated himself with this church when he was a young man. Having been an ardent believer, he willed an influence which will still be felt even though he is gone.
Mr. Graham was born in Conway S.C. September 29th, 1837 and died Feb, 29th 1912.
For two years he has been unable to work, and the last few weeks of his life he continued to get weaker finally passing away without a struggle. He leaves beside his wife, two sons Mr John Graham [my g-grandfather] of Waycross and Mr. W.J. Graham of Waynesville and one daughter Miss Georgia Graham.
We deeply sympathize with the bereaved members of the family.
Still pursuing leads to confirm his parents and to locate his grave in Wayne County, Georgia.
Dow, Columbia, SC
