I am trying to see if anyone remembers an old "fort" which was called for a period of time in the maybe late 60's, early 70's, "The Santuary" It seems it was on Hwy 17 (not sure on that) before you actually got into Myrtle Beach. This was turned into sort of a campground so to speak for youth who tended to be ummmm, free thinkers - hippies as we were called. I would like to find more information on The Santuary, the original fort. It is a part of my youth that I of course at the time didn't question the history, etc. The biggest thing that occurred while I was there was after the death of Janis Joplin, supposedly some Big Brother and the Holding Company's tour bus was there with very reclusive people inside for a long, long time. The authorities eventually closed it down. If anyone has any info on the Santuary, it's history, the fort's history, please contact me jclacoss@earthlink.net. This was almost 40 years ago in my life and I want to remember it all before I forget it!! Thank you in advance.
