I am not sure if the following will be of any assistance, but there is the Sandy Run Baptist Church - located off SR 25-14/Sandy Run Road and Highway 63- 1 mile south of Highway 63 near Varnville/Crocketsville. The cemetery there has a monument that reads: “Erected by the Members of Sandy Run Baptist Church in Memory of Gilbert Barnes (June 18, 1836/Sept. 28, 1920 and his Wife, Nancy Ann Altman (Feb. 29, 1857/Sept. 18, 1898) who gave this property to the Church”
This is a large cemetery and there are some Barnes' here. I am not sure if your "Edwin" is any decendent of these Barnes but I thought it was worth a posting.
