Main interest is James Griffith. James Carr Griffith, my Great-Great Grandfather. James was born Aug. 24, 1835 in Haywood County, North Carolina, died March 23, 1923, Upper Hominy, Buncombe County, North Carolina. Have Death Certificate.
Place of Death: For James Griffith: Buncombe County
Township: Upper Hominy
DOB: August 24, 1835
DOD: March 22, 1923
Father; ?
Mother: Sallie Griffith
Informant: J.T. Smith, Canton, NC (this is a son-in-law)
Place of Burial: Crabtree: What cemetery?

Bio of James Carr Griffith:
He served in the Civil War: Company A, 62nd Regiment. Enlisted in Haywood Co. at age 24, July 11, 1862. Reported present or accounted for through June 30, 1863. Captured at Cumberland Gap, Tn, September 9, 1863. Sent to Louisville, Ky. Confined at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Ill., September 26, 1863. Paroled at Camp Douglas and tranferred to Point Lookout, Md, Febuary 20-21, 1865 for exchange. Hospitalized at Richmond, Va, March 2, 1865 with chronic diarrhea and debilitas. Furloughed for 30 days on March 13, 1865. (Have a copy of original Roster Name on Roster J.S.Griffin).

Which I think is correct. As James and Martha Mary Jane were not married according to the 1860 US Census for South Carolina and North Carolina.

Family Lore said his name was James Carr Griffith, also this is how his name is listed in the Family Bible. Grew up in Haywood County, North Carolina. I have traced James and other family members in Haywood County, Census from 1870-1910. Cannot find anything on James in the 1860 or 1920 Census in Haywood County, North Carloina.

However I did find the following in the South Carolina, 1860 US Census about James Griffith
