Hello Lillian....I don't know of anyone who positively knows where Martha Gause is buried, but she may be in the Gause tomb near Ocean Isle Beach in Brunswick County. Also, more likely, she may be in Wilmington somewhere as her later family life was there. Martha died in 1843 and Oakdale Cemetery was established in early 1850s. Many interments were moved from other Wilmington (mostly Churches) cemeteries to Oakdale. Martha was my gg grandmother. See below:
"WILLIAM MARION TILLY
In New Hanover County Deed Book Z, pages 108-111, may be found an indenture that includes a record of the family of William Marion TILLY and Martha GAUSE, as follows:
In January 1842, William Marion TILLY and his wife Martha Gause TILLY were apparently in declining health. In order to provide a life estate for the elder TILLYS and to protect the property rights of William and Martha TILLYS children, John Cowan BOWDEN, husband of Emily Jane TILLY, and Bradford SHERMAN, husband of Rebecca Caroline TILLY, both daughters of William and Martha Gause TILLY, together purchased the family property located at Third and Red Cross Streets, Wilmington. The estate included a home with outbuildings, several lots, furniture and furnishings and a number of slaves. The seller was William WILLSON (Martha Gause TILLY'S son by her first husband, Alexander John WILLSON, and therefore half-brother to Emily TILLY and Rebecca TILLY). The property was occupied by and had at one time been owned by William Marion TILLY and his wife Martha Gause TILLY. How the property came into the hands of William WILLSON is not clear but it appears to have been a family transaction; the property may have been sold at auction. In addition to the life estate for William and Martha, the indenture further stated that after their deaths the land was to be divided equally between Joseph M. and Peter G. TILLY, (their two sons). The slaves and proceeds from the sale of furnishings were to be equally divided between (their daughters) Mary Marion (TILLY) CLARK, wife of Neil CLARK, Emily Jane (TILLY) BOWDEN, wife of John C. BOWDEN, Rebecca Caroline (TILLY) SHERMAN, wife of Bradford SHERMAN, and Sarah A. TILLY (unmarried). Thus, all of William and Martha Gause TILLY'S children were provided for."
I am curious as to why you posted your query on the Florence, SC site???
I am looking for the gravesite of Peter Bacot who may have died in Florence but tradition says he was buried in Darlington, SC. I visited there last week but could find no trace of him. As you probably know Peter was at old Brunswick and his wife Mary Lord is buried there. Peter was brother to Elizabeth Bacot, Martha Gause' mother.
