These badge are totally fraudulent. There was never any county or state agency in Georgetown County known as the "Plantation Police". These badges are the product of someone's imagination. Thousands were made in Taiwan in the 1990s and imported to this country. They are offered for sale on eBay every day, mostly by honest sellers who sell them for $8 to $10 each. There are a few, however, who attempt to pass of these fantasy badges as authentic, and I have seen these crooks get over $100 for them.

As for slave tags, Charleston was the only city known to require the use of these items. I have seen what are purported to be authentic slave tags from Richmond and Atlanta, but for some strange reason the tags from these far-distant cities appear to have been struck by the same dies. It is my considered opinion that the vast majority of the slave tags offered for sale are fake. Buy one at your peril.
