Married a Grace Hunter and had two sons, J.D. and Robert and daughter Louise. Second marriage to Nettie Mae Shirly and had four sons, Ernest Murphy, Arthur Ross, Claude Lindsay Jr. and Avery Lewis. They moved to Forst City, NC in 1896. Claude's father was Jesse Hudson and mother was Margaret Adams and he had a brother, Avery Cornelus and a sister, Jessie.
