Hello Jo,
I have no record of them being in GA. I do believe that they came through Tenn. on their way to Tippah Co., MS. I have taken a DNA test and share 24 of 25 markers with a Harry Lee Thomas who traces his line back to a Daniel Thomas b. 1830 in Georgia.
As far as having a connection to Morgan, Yes. George’s first wife is listed in the 1850 Tippah Census as Litha. In the 1860 Census he is married to an Elvira with children of the last name McCollum. I traced here back to Blount Co., AL. She was married there to a David McCollum. Her maiden name was Morgan. She was born in Tenn.

Tim
