There is a Nancy McCreight buried in Winnsboro's Sion Presbyterian Ch. Cemetery. Born 1785, she died in 1879. It is believed that she was married to William Phinney, the son of my great ancestor Patrick Phinney from Chester Co., SC.
To this marriage a son was born named James Monroe Phinney (1833-1862). He married a lady named Mary T.----- (6/1/1855-9/21/1902); they in turn had a daughter named Nancy Phinney (9/16/1860-4/8/1913). Jim Phinney was killed in the Battle of Seven Pines in May 1862; a Captain in the 6th SC Infantry. He was buried in Richmond at Oakwood Cem.
Very near to Nancy McCreight's grave in Winnsboro are the graves of Mary and Nancy Phinney.
Also, to be found near are gravestones of what I remember as a Colonel, or maybe a Reverend, McCreight. I believe that his consort is also buried there. It has been more than 25 years ago that I saw the cemetery. I do hope that you can provide me some idea of the McCreight family and verify that my assumptions are, in fact, true.
Pls. let me know if the above is helpful.
