Bruce, I don't have the answers you seek, but would like to ask you about your Butler Williams. I am doing research on my TILLERY family from Edgefield Co., SC and in so doing I've run across the name of "Butler Williams" in the following manner:
1. In the LDS records, I find that Elizabeth Tillery m. 2 Jan 1780, Warren Co., NC, to Butler Williams. I believe this is the same Elizabeth Tillery, b. 12 Jun 1760 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond, VA, who was the d/o Willoughby Tillery and wife, Margaret Unknown.
2. In Deed Book 9, 1793-1794 Edgefield Co., SC, Butler Williams was a witness when Willoughby Tillery sold land to William Tillery and John Tillery (I'm 99% sure these were Willoughby's sons). The dates were 27 & 28 Dec 1792, but the oaths weren't sworn to by the witnesses until 1 Feb 1794.
I've not been able to prove the connection, but my research efforts in the past 20 years leads me to the conclusion that my Richard Tillery, b. 1783 Edgefield Co., SC, is the s/o William Tillery who was the s/o Willoughby Tillery. This would make Elizabeth Tillery the aunt of my 3rd great-grandfather, Richard Tillery.
If you have any information on the ancestors of your Butler Williams, b. 1802, that has a link to this Elizabeth Tillery, I'd been most happy to share my information with you.
I look forward to your reply. Thanks, Vickie Rushton Bickle
