Sandra, thanks very much for the help. My source for the info on the deed you could not locate is some research notes from 1922 that I recently obtained. Here is exactly what the notes say: "Richard Tutt Jr. to Barkley Martin, 13 Jan 1802, Wife (Elizabeth) signed her dower." I would love to confirm that deed, as it contain the only known mention of Junior's wife. However, I fear that the old researcher may have confused Junior with his Uncle, Richard Tutt, whose wife was named Elizabeth.
The abstract you provided from Deed bk 33- p289 mentions a deceased Richard Tutt who was the father of the Richard H. Tutt also mentioned in the deed. As mentioned above, the deceased Richard was the uncle of the Richard Tutt Junior named in the other deed I am seeking. The nephew was called Junior to distinguish him from his Uncle, who was the Clerk of Edgefield County for a time. Junior was the son of Benjamin Tutt (d.1790), brother of the deceased Richard.
Deed book 23, page 75 contains the last Edgefield deed I have found that names Richard Tutt Junior. I believe he left SC shortly after, and am trying to prove it.
