There is a book by Chapman called The History of Edgefield County that was written (I believe) in the early 1900's. It was reprinted in the 1990's and is very informative about the people who settled Edgefield District and describes the areas they settled.
Another book is "In my Father's House are Many Mansions" by Orville Vernon Burton. This book has information on crops, census records, religion, etc. Looking in my index there are many pages that have references to the Brooks.
Another book by this same author, Burton, is "A Gentleman and an Officer" which is a reprint of letters written from an Edgefield Confederate Officer to his wife. This book also contains alot of interesting information about the District.
I found all three books on www.abebooks.com
