Will of Robert Bradford, Sr.
In the name of God Amen!!
I, Robert Bradford, resident of Troup County in said State being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper both as it respects myself and my family that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me, do therefore make this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.
Item 1st I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstances and condition in life, my soul I trust shall return to God who gave it, as I hope for eternal salvation through the merits and atonement of the blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, whose religion I have professed and as I humbly hope to some extent enjoyed for some years past.
Item 2d I give and bequeath to my beloved daughters five in number to Wit--Eliza Maffett wife of Samuel Maffett, Mary Jones wife Zachary Jones, Syntha Harris wife of William S. Harris, Nancy Bradford that is living with me and is yet single, and Marana Robinson wife of Adam Robinson Two hundred Dollars apiece to make them equal with my Sons, as I have given that amount to my Sons heretofore, the above amount to be raised by my Executors hereafter to be appointed by the sale of my Negro Woman Kate or any other property belonging to my Estate not otherwise disposed of in this my Will, that may be agreed upon by all my Legatees, in the event that the Legatees fail to agree on other property to be sold, for the purpose above stated then the Negro woman Kate to be sold as soon as she can be spared from the crop, and that amount to be raised and paid over as directed.
Item 3d I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Margarett with whom I have lived in the strictest quiet for upwards of fifty years all the balance of my Estate both real and personal during her lifetime or widowhood, the same consisting of my farm or all my land, in Troup County, my farming utensils, horses, hogs, cattle, household and kitchen furniture and all on my plantation together with my three Negros to Wit--Candus a woman, William a boy, and Ann a girl for her support and the support of my daughter Nancy during the time she may live with her mother, all the above property I leave in trust -- with my Executors hereafter to be appointed, but for the purpose above written, and I desire and hope they will take the oversight and see that none of my property be wasted and also that my wife Margarett and my daughter Nancy have a good and sufficient support out of the same for the time above stated.
Item 4th It is my Will and I do hereby direct that at the death of my wife Margarett, that all of my Estate then remaining together with all that it may increase until that time be sold by my Executors with as little expense as possible and an equal distribution of the proceeds of the same be made amongst all of my Lawful Legatees or heirs Share and Share alike, each one getting an equal portion of my Estate then remaining.
Item 5th I do hereby Constitute and appoint my Son in Law Samuel Maffett of Troup County in said State and my son Robert H. Bradford of Gwinnett County and State aforesaid Executors of this my last Will and Testament--this December the 29th 1855.

(Source: My transcription from photocopy of original will sent to me by Troup Co, Ga, County Clerk's office, 1992. The will is contained in Troup County, Georgia, Will Book B, page 146, 1858. Most of the handwriting in the will is very clear, however, several spots may be open to other interpretations. Write to County Clerk's office to obtain photocopy of original --the copy they sent me was quite large--or read LDS microfilm of Troup County, GA, Will Book B. Hope this helps someone.
Note: This family left Edgefield Co, SC for Gwinnett Co, Ga and then some of them to Troup Co, Ga. Robt Sr grew up in Chester Co, SC. His family originally said to have come from Ireland to America with Rev. Wm. Martin group.
