According to History of Edgefield Co SC (originally published in 1897) by Chapman, Big Stephen's Creek Church was organized by Rev Daniel Marshall about 1769-70. No precise location is given but Chapman did mention that the membership was never large because it was located in an area of large plantations (thus not many people in close proximity). An 1807 map of Edgefield shows the mouth of Big Creek about five miles north of Augusta. The same map shows Thos. Green's Tavern a few miles west of Edgefield.

The denomination is Baptist. The library at Furman University in Greenville holds SC Baptist Church records. I do not know if Stevens Creek Church is included because Chapman said its early records did not survive.
