CLACKERs in pre-1800 Edgefield Dist.
Posted by: Bonnie Butler Date: February 10, 2001 at 12:06:45
  of 1566

I am researching these folks in Edgefield, Abbeville, Lexington, & Orangeburgh Districts in SC. The first 2 districts had the folks w/ the spellings CLACKER & CLECKLEY, respectively. The last 2 districts had the KLECKLEY spelling.

The families were related, but I am not sure just how at the moment. Jimmy Carter's wife, Rosalynn (Smith), has a KLECKLEY gg g'ma out of Lexington Co., SC, removed to Macon Co., GA.

My reason for researching the family is that James Robert RIVERS b. 1835 was living w/the Henry KLECKLEY family in Lexington in 1850. JRR variously gave his birthplace as Richland, Lexington, or Edgefield Co., SC.

In Edgefield, before 1790, Mary CLACKER m2. Jones RIVERS. She was the dau of John CLACKER Jr.

I am seeking verification of a link between the families and am still piecing all this together. I would invite any assistance.
