James C. Terry b. Raeley Creek , 1796
Posted by: Lee Ferguson Date: June 11, 2000 at 09:24:47
  of 1566

I am looking for information on Raeley Creek Plantation, Edgefield Co., SC. Is there still such a place? My ancestor, James Clarence Terry, Sr. was born there in 1791 or 1796. He was an attorney in Edgefield, SC and later moved to AL. He died there on 21 July 1856 in Mt. Sterling, Choctaw Co., AL. He married Mary Ann S. Hutchinson (b. 1805 Augusta, Richmond, GA, d. abt 1890).

According to the book "Park and Allied Families of Kentucky" James Terry's obituary was written by Henry Clay. The wife of James Terry was the former Mary Anne Hutchenson, daughter of a wealthy Augusta, Ga. family, who it was said, had as her bodyguard an African prince who wore a ring in his nose.

If anyone has access to any old obituaries, I would love to find out what Henry Clay had to say about James Clarence Terry, Sr.
