A professional genealogist found the following in Henry Co., AL for me: An Orphans Court record with the date of 16 Nov 1840 reveals the following children of Benjamin and Mary Lewis,Sr. 1) John, b.ca 1800 in SC - m. Sarah M. Hutchison 15 Feb 1827 Henry Co AL; 2) Crawford b. bet 1800-1810, m Eady Jones 28 Jun 1832; 3)Benjamin DOB unknown, m Anna Jane Creech 8 Feb 1833; 4) Eveline (Caroline?) b ca 1808 SC, m Thomas Brown; 5) Sarah G b ca 1812, m White Pynes 26 Aug 1836; 6) Nancy DOB unknown, m a Harper; 7) "Maria" Mariah S b ca 1822 in AL, m Thomas Armstrong; 8)Sterling J. b ca 1825 GA, m Mary E Johnson 8 May 1849 (the Orph.Ct. Record shows he is a doctor); and 9)"Nelly" E. H. DOB unknown, m Evans E. Bates 4 June 1848.

Sterling J. Lewis is the son of Benj. Lewis, Sr., that applied for Letters of Administration on the estate of the deceased. The names of Koonce and Cawthon appear on some of the estate records and these names appear in the John Lewis-Sarah Hutchison Family Bible.

The Memorial Records of Alabama has that John served in Floyd's Army vs. Indians in GA and AL (the GA volunteers organized by John Floyd). "Taking great delight in this kind of life, John Lewis was in the regular Army for several years." In May 1836, John Lewis, Capt., Capt. Lewis' Co., 75th Regiment, Alabama Militia (Blair's Battalion) enrolled at Bisops for the Creek War. Sarah M., John's wife, was the daughter of James and Barbary Rabb Hutchison of GA. Barbara Rabb was the daughter of James and Hannah Rabb who were from Fairfield District, SC.

A Benjamin Lewis, b. 26 May 1781 in Guilford Co., NC was married to Elizabeth unknown. Sibblings of this Benjamin Lewis are: Priscilla, Abner, Brig. Gen. Joseph H., Isaiah, Joab, Neriah, Jacob, Sr., Catherine and Elizabeth Lewis, their parents were Ann (Beeson) and David Lewis of Pendleton, S.C.

I look forward to hearing anything about the Lewis family history and genealogy.
