While not a direct answer to your question, William Herrin, sometimes listed as William Herring, had land records in Edgefield. William Herring had a grant of 184 acres on the waters of Dry and Mine Creeks surveyed 11 Nov 1788 (SC Dept Archives & History, S213190, Vol 13, 143) This was on a branch of Dry Creek called Lucys or Lucas Branch. In 1790 William Herrin sold the 184 acres, part to James Salter (Edgefield Co., SC Deed Book 1, 250-252), and part to Henry Champion (Edgefield Co., SC Deed Book 1, 222-224). William Herring had a grant of 138 acres on the waters of Dry Creek surveyed 25 Apr 1786 (SC Dept Archives & History, S213190, Vol 13, 308). James Salter also purchased this tract. These two tract were contiguous to each other. They are in current Saluda County just below the headwaters of Richland Creek and east of Dry Creek. It would be close to SC Hwy 39 between Saluda and Batesburg. William seems to have been associated with a Henry Herrin on Penn Creek, just below and west of the town of Saluda. About 1815, a William Herrin appears on Mine Creek. Dry Creek is a tributary of Mine Creek. There are other mentions of Herrin in land records. I hope this is useful to you.
