There were CLOUD family members in Clarke Co, AL, in the early 1800s. John BETTIS m. Elizabeth CLOUD there on 06 Jan 1824.

Elizabeth DODDRIDGE/DODRIDGE m1. Mr. CLOYD/CLOID/CLOUD and had sons Hiram and Nevett/Nevitt/Newitt/Newt/Nvett; Elizabeth m2. John BETTIS (on 01 Jan 1825 in Clarke Co) and had dau. Mary BETTIS; she m3. on 21 Dec 1837 to William M. MURPHY.

I suspect that these two Johns and Elizabeths may be one and the same couple.

All of this is from online databases for Clarke Co, AL.

CLOUD appears to have several other spellings, most commonly CLOYD or CLOID, but also CLOY(ED), CLAUD(E), etc.

My family is BETTIS, and I would appreciate any information on that family in Alabama in the early 1800s.
