This is not my family, and I have no knowledge of the family. I have merely looked at the 3 census enumerations before the enumeration of 1880. You have some distinctive given names: Rufus, Preston and Bonham, making it very easy to locate the family.
See the following Federal Census listings in Edgefield Co. SC:
1850 p. 40 147/147 John C. Hamilton family
1860 p. 124 81/81 Jno. C. Hamelton family. There is a female, Rhoda Hamilton age 66, who might be the mother of John C.
1870 p. 404 789/789 John C. Hamilton family
Each census gives a varying set of children. Apparently, John C. and Mary Hamilton had many children, some of whom may have died young.
The Fannie you mention was named Frances, for which Fannie is a very common nickname.
