I am looking for any information on the following family line. Jefferson J Hays was my gg-grandfather. I have found him in the SC census in 1860, Bennettsville. In 1870, Marion County, and in 1880, Marlboro County. He served as a private in Co K, 8th South Carolina Infantry and was wounded and captured at Gettysburg. He then spent time in Elmira prison My aunt has a copy of a marraige certificate where Jefferson J Hays married Driuetta Hays, March 10, 1858 in Browning, South Carolina. The following children are listed on the census: Harriet Jane, Mary Ann, Molly, Kate, Maggie, Jno.?(Johnathon), Ralf, John, Margaret, Catherine, Horatio, James, Lela, Martha, Thomas, and Henry. Phebe was his wife in 1880. The next time I find Jefferson is 1900 where he is living with his oldest daughter and her husband in Manning. David and Mary Ann Webster are buried in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetary. I have also found Horatio Hayes in 1920 living in Carmichael. Thomas, my g-grandfather moved to Robeson county probably around 1900 and established the North Carolina Hayes line. I found him listed in the 1900 census in Back Swamp Township, Robeson County, NC. I would love to find some more info on any of the descendants. With that many children I am sure there are distant cousins somewhere. Notify Administrator about this message?
