I hope you all enjoy my notes, and stuff from others sent to me over the years. I have been saving stuff for 30 yrs now. I tried to put it in order by date.

My Misc. Notes: - On Sciper, Skipper, Skiper, Skeper, Scipper. Like other SKIPPER families, there is persistant family lore of Native American blood, but no proof of it.
Scipper in documents from the 18th century. I believe
that this is only a spelling variant.

John Skipper is said to have been born before 1650 in England, to have emigrated to Virginia in the mid to late 17th century, and to have died about 1700. His documented appearances are few. A person of his name witnessed a legal transaction in Middlesex Co., Virginia in 1682. The same John Skipper or another married Jane, widow of John Snowden, about 1686, administered Snowden's estate in nearby St. Marys Co., Maryland, and died before 1694, when his own estate was administered there by twice-widowed Jane, who lived past 1696. As the reputed father of James, John has sometimes been identified as "John Skipwith," usually casting him as a brother of prominent immigrants, Sir Grey Skipwith and Diana Skipwith Dale (above), who, in fact, had no such brother and are not known to have arrived in Virginia with other Skipwith relatives. Unfortunately (because a double tie to the Skipwiths in this family tree would be welcome), there is no easy fit of an immigrant named John to the well-established Skipwith ancestry. A more likely candidate than John for James Skipper's father was George Skipper, Sr., who owned property near that of James in Northampton Co. in the mid-1720s and had a son, George, Jr., perhaps a brother of James, who lived next to James and, like him, moved south to Craven Co. in the early 1740s. - http://users.wirelessfrontier.net/~acree/yunknowns.html

1740? Barnabas SKIPPER who married Temperence was the son of Barnabas Skipper b. 1740 (Prob) Craven Co., NC > Anson Co., NC >Marlboro Co., SC and died in Marlboro SC 1800-1810. This older Barnabas' son, Silas b. 1774-1784 NC died bef 1830 in Marlboro Co., SC, brother to your Barnabas, Udie, was the father of Arthur b. 1800 Marlboro Co., SC who went to TN about the time that Barnabus and Temperance died -- before 1830. Now, I have Barnabus b. 1740 tentavely listed as the son of George SKIPPER, Jr. b. about 1720 and died in Anson Co., NC, son of George SKIPPER, Sr. b. ca. 1693 prob. Bertie Co. NC (area later became Northampton Co.) >Craven Co., NC > d. after 1763 Anson Co., NC and his wife, Mary BAILEY b. ca 1705 d. unknown. He was not alive at the time of Charity's birth, Barnabas Skipper, his son, was living in NC, SC during this time period. He married his wife, Temperance, in about 1810, so it is possible that he had an Indian wife prior to that. In fact, Barnabas's mother was Indian, Mary Bailey

1740 Other "evidence" that has lead me to my conclusions are the frequency of first names that are among Abraham, John, and Isaac's desendents that were in Barnabas' family. Among these are Needham, John, Silas, Barnabas, Barnaby, etc. Barnabus Skipper b. ca 1740 went to Marlboro Co., SC before 1800 and is listed in the census there, as is his son John, so the John Skipper in 1800 Brunswick Co., NC is not his.

1772 There were Skippers in Brunswick Co. in 1772 ( Moses and Clemonds Skipper ) and in Bladen Co. in 1763 (Jos., Fred, and Hardy) from which Brunswick was formed. I strongly suspect that the Brunswick Co. Skippers descended from some of these.

1777 RICHARD SKIPPER, b. 1777 SC; d. 1850 Jackson Co IL. He married SARAH ? abt 1802 and they lived for a time in NC, then migrated abt 1810 into the area of southern KY/northern TN (Monroe/Cumberland Co KY and Overton / Jackson Co TN). In 1840, he was Warren Co KY, then was in IL by 1842. In about 1823, Richard starts showing up in records as Richard SKIPWORTH, but the name SKIPPER has been used by some members of the family interchangeably even into modern times.

1777 Richard Skipper/Skipworth was born abt 1777; the IL death index says he was born in SC. Richard's sons Redding, b. 1803 and James b. 1806 have birthplace of NC on most census.

1778 Byrd Cornet, born say 1760, enlisted in the North Carolina Continental Line on 20 July 1778 [N.C. Historical & Genealogical Register II:581]. He was living in Northampton County, North Carolina, between 24 June 1783 and September 1790 when he was paid money by the estate of Thomas Deloatch [Gammon, Records of Estates, Northampton County, I:72], and he paid one pound to the St. George Parish, Northampton County wardens on 4 June 1798 [CR 71.927.1, fol. 34]. Byrd was head of a Northampton County household of 8 "other free" and 3 slaves in 1790 [NC:75] and was counted as "other free" in the Chatham County census in 1800, called "Hew Bird Cornet" [NC:196]. On 14 June 1819 he married Betsy Skippey (Skipper?) , Cumberland County, North Carolina bond, Daniel Munroe bondsman. He may have been the father of i. Ned, head of a Pasquotank County household of 2 "other free" and one slave in 1810 [NC:892].

1787? Barnabus Skipper In Anson County N.C owning some land in this County in the early to late 1700 was in a book at the Gaston County Library showing records of land owners in North Carolina not sure if this is your Barnabus. But there was also a Benjamin Skipper i think i recall reading they had land joining each other. Skipper, believe may be Barnabus, lived in SC who had following children: Benjamin, b. 1787, SC, d. aft 1850 (Laurens?) GA; Daniel,b. 1788, SC, d. 18547, GA; Barney B., b. bet 1776-1794; Elizabeth; John; JOseph. Have a bit more; i.e., spouses, etc. My great grandmother was Rachael dau. of Benjamin. She was b. abt 1832, Laurens Co., GA, d. aft 1870 Laurens?, GA. Married Mark Bellflower, Apr 20, 1856. Children John W. and Wright Allen (grandfather). Barnabas is listed with 4 males over the age of 16 and 1 son under 16 in Richmond Co. in 1790 census. HIs four youngest sons, Barnabas, Isaac, John and Silas would have fallen in this category. Barnabas would have been about 10 in 1790. Barnabas' brother, Benjamin is listed in the Richmond Co. at the same time with 2 males over 16.Abraham who could be Barnabas' son was listed in Brunswick Co. with 1 male over 16 and 2 under 16 and 3 females. Since Barnabas' son was born between 1745 and 1755, it is reasonable to think that this could very well be Barnabas' son, Abraham. The only other Abraham Skippers listed in 1790 Census were Abraham and Abraham Jr. in Georgetown, SC. One can assume that Jr. was the son of the Abraham in SC. Jr. had 1 male over 16 and 3 males under 16 and 3 females in his household. This would lead me to believe that Jr. would be the father of at least 4 children in 1790. If his father were Barnabas' son that would mean that he would be about 35 to 45 years old. If he fathered Abham Jr. when he was about 20, Jr. would be about 25 years old in 1790. Althougth it could be possible, I think it unlikely, therefor I concluded that the Abraham Skipper in Brunswick Co was the son of Barnabas. It further makes sense to me that his younger brothers, John and then Isaac would follow him to Brunswick Co. John is listed in Brunswick Co. with 1 male over 16 and 3 females. In the1800 Census in Brusnwick Co., NC, he is listed with 1 white male under 10 and 1 up to 45 and 1 white female from 10 to 16, 1 from 16 to 26, and 1 from 26 to 45.

The particulars Of the killing, as related to our reporter yesterday by one Who states he was an eye witness, are substantially as Follows; On the 17th inst. Skipper went to Collins’ mill, and while On the way attempted to borrow a pistol, saying at the time That he wanted to “kill old man Collins.” He went to Collins’ house, where he cursed and abused Mrs. Collins. When Mr. C. came up Skipper told him that he would have The boy or kill him. Mr. Collins remonstrated with him and And told him to go and get the boy if he could persuade him (the boy) to go with him. Skipper wanted Collins to go with him and this he refused to do, when very angry words arose between them. Friends interfered and Skipper was persuaded to go home. About sunset Skipper returned and made another attack Upon Collins.
