Don, I think you are right and that 1823 Deed from Moab to Riley shows that Sophia died before 1823. I suppose it is possible that he is talking about his first wife in 1823, but not probable. I keep losing track of all this stuff. I need to check that deed and make sure I have those dates correct. Had not seen the 1830 Chesterfield County SC Census for Moab Stevens. I had assumed that the Moab on the 1830 Lancaster Co SC Census was "our" Moab. Shows me I shouldn't assume things. Moab in 1830 in Chesterfield County: Males: 1 - five and under 1 - 15 to 20 1 - 20 to 30 1 - 30 to 40 1 - 70 to 80 Females: 1 - 10 to 15 1 - 15 to 20 1 - 40 to 50 Slaves: 1 - 36 to 55 (Temor) Moab, Lancaster Co, SC. 1830 Males: 1 - 60-69 2 - 20-29 2 - 15-19 1 - 5-9 1 - under 5 Females: 1 - 50-59 1 - 20-29 I don't know why I get so confused about this family. Every time I put it away and work on someone else for a while, it's like starting all over again when I come back to them. It looks to me like Vincent died before 1820, and that Sophia married Moab by 1820 and died by 1823. Will confirm if possible. Thank you for your help! Cynthia
