Hi Don,

I see that I should have checked the Stephens forum for previously posted information re: Moab and Sophia Cato, and I thank you for your patience with me.

Vincent Cato died prior to September 25, 1822, in Lancaster Co, SC. He was likely deceased before 1820, as he does not appear on the census after 1810.

September 25, 1822: writ in partition, Estate of Vincent Cato, deceased: Wm. R. Horton, Wm. Horton, Michael Horton, Wm Baskins and Needham Catoe (bro of Vincent) divide the property of Vincent Cato between Moab Stevens and Sophia his wife the widow of said Vincent, and the 8 children of Vincent and Sophia. The children are:
Jesse Cato (of age)
Riley Cato (of age)
William Cato (minor)
Matilda Cato (minor)
Marella Cato (minor)
Mariah Cato (minor)
Elizabeth Cato (minor)
Milly Vincent Cato (minor)

It is possible that Moab Stevens and Sophia were married in 1820, as I do not find Vincent or Sophia on the 1820 census, and comparison of Moab Stevens in 1810 and 1820 census seems like it support this theory:
Moab Stevens, Lancaster Co, SC, 1810 p 4
1 m over 45 (Moab)
1 m 16-26
3 f 16-26
1 f under 10

Moab Stevens, Lancaster CO, SC, 1820
1 male 45 or over (Moab)
1 f 26-45 (Sophia?)
1 m 26-45
1 m 16-26
1 f 16-26
1 m 10-16
1 f 10-16 (dau of Vincent?)
2 f under 10 (daus of Vincent?)

I think Sophia was alive in 1830, as Moab Stevens Census shows 1 m 60-69 and 1 f 50-59 (Sophia?, along with rest of family.

She was deceased before 1833, when Riley Cato and Wm. H. Cato (sons of Vincent and Sophia) sell to Wm. H. Roberts, their claim in the third of a tract of land formerly belonging to the widow Sophia Cato deceased.

Hope this helps. We have no idea what happened to the girl children of Vincent and Sophia, except that one of them may have married a William Ellis in Lancaster Co. It is a rumor that one of them married a child of Moab Stevens.

Best Regards,
Cynthia
