Dawna,
Thank you for that bit of information. I have been researching the Johnsons for many years. Right now I’m trying to identify Johnson lines in Chesterfield County and Darlington County that are related. I descend from Noel Johnson through his son William Knoxie Johnson. His other sons were John, Warren, Aron Noel and Alexander. Noel moved to Chesterfield County from Johnston County NC sometime after 1800, but before 1803. This is based on him being listed in the 1800 census in Johnston County. Land records show he sold his land holdings there in 1801, then receiving a land grant in Chesterfield in 1803. He is listed in the 1810 Chesterfield census. Recently I had a perfect dna match with a descendant of the William Johnson Sr you mention. Records in Johnston County show this William Johnson being involved in the estate of his deceased father, William Johnson in 1805. Court records note that Noel Johnson has no claim on the estate of the decease William Johnson of Johnston County. Of course Noel was in Chesterfield County by then. William Johnson(the son) married Clary Gale ( there is information on her). All their children were born in Johnston County NC. Later on William Johnson doesn’t fare well in another court case and shows up in Chesterfield County between 1810 and 1820 (William is listed in the 1820 census in Chesterfield). William lived near Noel. They are buried about mile from each other. A descendant of the Shadrack Johnston recently had his dna tested. His results prove there is no relationship between Noel/William and Shadrack. There is another line of Johnsons in Chesterfield that descend from Archibald Johnson.(Archibald’s other brothers settled in Anson/Scotland counties in NC). I have a copy of a book concerning his line that traces back to the Highlands of Scotland. I believe some of Archibald children or descendants were Daniel P. Johnson (son), William Henry Johnson, Henry Johnson, John Angus Johnson and John Johnson, all listed in the early censuses of Chesterfield County. I believe Henry Johnson married into the Purvis family. Another Johnson researcher believes this Henry Johnson line came out of the Isle of Wight Johnson line which is the proposed line Noel and William Johnson are out of. Daniel P. Johnson/Sarah MacPherson has children named William, Christian, Sarah, Archibald, Mary, Flora, and John. Any male descendants of the Archibald Johnson or Henry Johnson or Daniel P. Johnson line are welcome to join the Johnson Dna project. Their results could reveal a lot of information on the relationship of this Johnson line to the other Johnson lines in the county. Dna testing has become “the tool” for genealogy research. When there is no paper trail or a dried up paper trail dna testing has been able to find new beginnings. It is also great for proving existing genealogies. I’m also trying to find the father of Alexander L. Johnson (born 1814-15- he was still around in 1880 census) who was married to a Cinthia Outlaw. Noel Johnson had a son named Alexander L.(b1820) who died during the Civil War. If there is anyone interested in learning more about any of the information above..or dna testing please contact me at cwnscott@sbcglobal.net
Thanks
