Kitty Purvis married William Joseph Rascoe in April of 1887 in Chesterfield County South Carolina. Catherine (Kitty) Purvis was a daughter of William Purvis and Charlotte Vaughn Purvis. She may have been an adopted daughter and her biological father may have been a Taylor. William Joseph Rascoe was a son of Rebecca Rasco. The 1870, 1880, and some later censuses shows the households of the Purvis and Rascoe families to be on the same page and only tow or three houses away from ecach other. The court records of Chesterfield County S.C. shows that Catherine Parker alias Catherine Purvis and William Joseph Rascoe were indited for violations of the South Carolina law banning intermarriage of races. William Joseph Rascoe was said to be a Mulato man and Cather a white woman. I don't know the outcome of this court action but by 1897 William Joseph Rascoe and his wife Kitty Purvis were living in Coffee County Alabama. Can anyone confirm that the Kitty Purvis who married William Joseph Rascoe was indeed the daughter of William Purvis and his wife Charlotte Vaughn? Does anyone know the out come of the Trial concerning the intermarriage of Races mentioned above. Thank for any help. James R. Rasco <jrrasco2@aol.com> Notify Administrator about this message?
