The George Riley HITT who is buried at the Old Williamston Cemetery was never married to a Barbara CAMPBELL. This George Riley HITT was my great-grandfather. He was first married to Margaret Ann YOUNG (who he is buried beside together with two of his four children). He was second married to Alma FEW with whom he had a daughter who is still living and lives in Greenville. This George Riley HITT was the son of James M. HITT and Margaret Ann HUNT of Pickens County. James M. HITT had a half-brother named George Riley HITT. This may be the George Riley HITT you are searching for. I have death certificates (his, his spouses, his parents, his siblings, his children, etc.), obituaries, city directories, family histories, living testimony, census records, etc. to back this up. The only reason my George Riley HITT is buried at Williamston is because he and his wife buried their two small children there while they were living there for a short time while he worked at a mill. In fact, he traveled all over for work purposes. He lived in Toccoa, GA, Pickens Co., and was living in Greenville, SC when he died. Any questions - contact me. I just wanted to clarify this because I keep seeing the same erroneous post. This George Riley HITT was a family oriented, christian, hardworking, and gentle man - However, I am told that his uncle, also named George Riley HITT (who lived in Pickens County), was not. By the way, the "Uncle"'s parents were James A. HITT and Elendor DUNCAN of Pickens Co., SC.
