Hello Fellow Genealogist, 30 Nov 2001
===========================================================
BACKGROUND INFORMATION. Robert Childress Sr. lived in the old 96th Judicial District (Lauren County, Greenville County and/or Anderson County) SC most of his adult life. He died in May or Jun 1799 probably in Anderson County, SC. He owned property (100 acres) on the Tugaloo River at the time of his death.
===========================================================
Mary Childress (Childers) was appointed the administrator of his estate by the court of Pembleton County SC on 25 Jun 1799. (See Box 31, Number 712)This information was provided by the SC Department of Archives and History.
========================================================
Title to this property was transferred to the heirs of Robert Childress Sr. on 28 Dec 1820 (Bibb County, Ala records) and recorded on the records for Anderson County SC in Book P, Page 319, date unknown. A related transaction was recorded in the records for Anderson County SC in Book O, Page, date unknown.
==========================================================
The SC Department of Archives and History was unable to find any land information for Robert Childress on the COM Index (Combined Alphabetical Index) to colonial and early state records. In their opinion, Robert Childress Sr. probably died without a will. They suggested that I search the Anderson County Wills and Estate(Administrations) and State Land Grants beginning in 1784.
==========================================================
Can anyone search the Anderson County Wills and Estate (Administrations) Records and the State Land Grants beginniing in 1784 and answer the following questions:
==========================================================
QUESTION 1. When and how did Robert Childress Sr. acquire this property? Specifically, did Robert Childress Sr. acquire this property by land grant, purchase or inheritance? Request a copy of the acquisition document.
===========================================================
QUESTION 2. Did Robert Childress Sr have clear title to this property at the time of his death? Request a copy of any lien against this property at the time of his death.
==========================================================
Request any additional information about the family of Robert Childress Sr. (wife's name, children's name, date of marriage, date of birth, etc) which you may find during this search.
===========================================================
My Email address is < RChildress@satx.rr.com>
==========================================================
Thank you for your help. ROBERT D. CHILDRESS OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
