The book "Eight Southern Families" has a large section on the Shirley family and is worth checking out. You can read it at genealogylibrary.com. If that web address is incorrect, you can get there from the familytreemaker.com homepage as well. I found a great deal of info on the Shirleys who intermarried with my line in SC.
