My gg grandfather, John J. Lewis, (b. abt. 1815), married (abt. 1847) Matilda Reid, daughter of Elizabeth Dickert and Reuben Reid of Newberry, SC. Matilda and John were listed on the 1850 and 1860 census records of Greenville, SC.
Census records of Anderson County, SC, show the following information:

Lewis, white male children between age 6 and 16 = 2, white female children between age 6 and 16 = 2, white males over 21 = 1, total males all ages = 3, total females all ages = 3.
July 7-8, 1870 Census of Rock Mill Township, Anderson County, South Carolina: J. J. Lewis a farmer age 55, Lyda (house keeper) age 43, Seth age 13, Candes age10, Mary A. age 9, Wm. H. age 8, Georgan age 5. All were born in SC.
June 9-10, 1880 Census of Fork Township, Anderson County, South Carolina: John Lewis age 65 "works in farm," Prudy age 28 a daughter is single, Matilda A. Pardon age 26 a daughter is widowed, Anna age 4 a gdaughter, James O. age 1 a gson, Sess(Seth) age 23 a son is married, Jno age 5 a gson, Candes E. age 20 a daughter is single, Wm. H. age 18 a son is single, Georgan age 15 a daughter is single. John is listed as both married and widowed.
