Patti, I drove to Anderson today. The library has the Anderson Co., S.C. Probate records on microfilm. I found where an Eli Moore, on 10 April 1838, roll 361, presented a petition to the court, for guardanship of Serena Williams. Also involved in the guardianship, was Micajah Estis. There were only 2 pages in the document, and no mention of an Anthony Moore, or other children. Nor is their an Anthony Moore in the Probate index.
My Gr.Gr.Grandmother was Serena Moore Brothers, acording to my Gr.Grandmothers, obituary. This could possibly be her. Her birth was 1830 in S.C., and Serena was described in the document as in her infancy.
I have always thought that Alfred Moore and wife Tabitha were Serena's parents, because in the 1860c Serena and her family were neighbors with Alfred, with one house in between them.
One of the children that Anthony birthed was a Sarah A. Moore, 1837-1926. In her death certificate, the informant stated her Father was Anthony Moore. She married a Levi Garrison Elrod.
My mother stated before she died, that her Grandmother had an Aunt, named Elrod. In 1850c Sarah Moore was living with William Elrod, and wife Dorcas. And in William Elrod's will, he left his estate to Dorcas and Mary E. Brothers, daughter of my Serena.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim
