Look Up Request - Major Lewis Johnson, born 1862

I would like to know what happened to Major Lewis Johnson born 17 March 1862, Belton, Anderson, SC. Last record I can find is 1880 census living with E. Holtten Poore & working as laborer. Major was third child of eleven children of James Willis and Margaret Elizabeth (Kelly) Johnson. Would like to know if Major left SC via ship out of Beaufort and ended up in Texas? Any info appreciated. Contact with a relative would be GREAT!
