The William I was speaking about was not Thomas or Job's brother, but the other Sayre who emigrated to the United States from England and ended up in Virginia.
I too know that Ralph is of the J2 haplogroup (apparently William's line) and was very dismayed over these findings.I have read his thread on Y-DNA.I read it in fact before I ordered the DNA kit.
Regarding the name changes over the years, my grandfather stated that our name began as Sayre and then went to Sears, Sayres and finally Sayers.I was astonished to find that the sons of Hiram that moved from Virginia to West Virginia and their descendants remained as Sayres (including Paul) where as my line and the lines of Newton's siblings who remained in Virginia changed to Sayers.Newton's tombstone (my 2nd great grandfather) says Sayres but his wife Annie, who died 16 years before he did, has Sayers.
