I descend from Hiram G Saxton, Joseph Jehial Sexton, Gershom, etc. I'm trying to establish when Gershom came to Saratoga. I wonder if his father is Nathaniel - not Nehemiah. The following file: contains an 1855 affidavit by Elizabeth Saxon Baley, widow of William Baley, which lists her parents as Nathan Saxon b 17 Jul 1732 and Edith Saxon b. 1 May 1735. Their children: Reuben b. 27 Dec 1754; Kezia b. 8 Apr 1756; Hannah b. 8 Sep 1758; Geasham b. 28 Apr 1761; Nathaniel b. 27 Sep 1763; and Elizabeth b. 9 Apr 1766.

Ralph Ege, author of Pioneers of Old Hopewell (1908), offers little info on Nathaniel Sexton. (I need to re-read his book, but believe he has Gershom in Rev War in Hopewell in 1777). Gershom is recorded in Saratoga in 1790 census. He married Elizabeth Swetland of/in VT in 1781 at age 20 which leaves me to believe he migrated to Saratoga area right after or during the war if he m. in VT. With that premise did his parents go to Virginia with other family or to NY - since Elizabeth Saxon Baley ends up in NY - or did Nathaniel take his family to NY or Saratoga following war. Or did Nathaniel and Edith migrate back to NY before the war. On the other hand, one site shows Gershom and Elizabeth m. in Hopewell, NJ.

Any thoughts or ideas welcome.

Any thoughts? Also trying to find info on Nathaniel and Edith death dates which weren't in the bible referenced in affidavit sited above.

Thanks for any assistance you can offer
