To those of you who have family members from Saxton, Bedford County, PA: We are trying to find out the name of our grandmother's father. Our grandmother was Edith Gaynelle Caswell Wilt. She was born in Saxton in 1897 and was given her mother's maiden name because her father and mother weren't married. Her mother was Sallie Caswell, born in Oremenia,Blair County, PA about 1867. It is possible that Sallie was working as a domestic servant in Saxton when she became pregnant. She also may have been living with relatives when she gave birth to Edith. We think that her middle name Gaynelle may give us a clue to her father or his family since it is such an unusual name and not used in the Caswell family as far as we can tell.
Thanks.
Lois Wilt Schultz
