As you have found, unfortunately our Ashton Under Lyne Saxons were not particularly creative when it came to naming their children -- Johns and Sarahs are everywhere. I have a 1774 John Saxon who fathered a 1797 John Saxon who fathered an 1827 John Saxon (among others). I do have in my notes that many of the children of 1827 John were married at Manchester Cathedral, and that 1774 John Saxon was a weaver who took his cloth to Manchester on a pack horse. Evidently he did pretty well for himself... at least until the Industrial Revolution!
