AAHHH! Finding the right John Sawtell is driving me crazy. I KNOW the Edmund Sawtell in Scipio, Cayuga County, New York is my ancestor. He married Hannah Gaines and daughter Lurency was born in Connecticut. Son David, on 1880 census, lists Edmuds place of birth as Vermont and Hannah's as Massachusetts. However, I think he may have mixed them up. And Hannah's parents, John Gains and Lurana Pease, were both from Enfield Connecticut, but left the area shortly after they were married. Where they went, I don't know.

ANYWAY. in the 1800 census, Asa Sawtell is right between Edmund and Levi. I know the John who is buried in Groton had sons by all those names. The one in Chenanago had an Edmund and a Levi, but I don't recall an Asa in his will.
Just thinking outloud here. Different people place him with different John Sawtell's and they all make sense!
