I have one statement from a Buena Vista county, Iowa history book from 1900 that says "the paternal grandfather of Catherine Jane Sawdey was of Welsh descent, from Penn Yan, NY and served his country in the war of 1812." The woman mentioned was my gg aunt. One line I have investigated as being a possible extension of the Benjamin mentioned goes back to a John Sawdey, born in 1619 in England.
