Adam SAHM (no wife listed in 1850 Census for Franklin Co. IN) is my great-great-grandfather, who moved from Germany around 1835 to work a farm Franklin Co. IN; one of his sons, Martin (b. 1843), is my great-grandfather, and as a orphan at age 17, moved to Butler Co. OH to work on the James M. STOKES farm (having last name of SAM, according to 1860 Census of Wayne Township in Butler Co. OH. After serving 3 years in the 35th O.V.I. he married Mary Eleanor THOMAS and remained in Butler Co. area (working on Mary Thomas'father's farm?) until 1884, then moved for 8 years to central IL (Maroa in Macon Co./ Kenney in DeWitt Co.) before moving to farm near Fairfield, Clay Co. NE. Any possible connections? Have more info if requested.
