Need to find info. on my arabic roots
The grandfather of my grandfather was Turab Ali. He came to the west indian island of Trinidad sometime in the 1800s. I do not know when he was born but I do know that he was a cook on a merchant ship, when docked on the island he was given the option to stay or to go back to Saudi Arabia. He opted to stay. So Queen Victoria said that she would let him if he bought some property and got married. He bought a couple acres of land in the south called Marouga and he found a young Indian girl at an orphanage, so he married her and Queen Victoria granted his wishes to stay. The Canadian Missionaries came to Trinidad to teach people about religion by then Turab Ali and his wife already had chilren, their last name was his first name Turab, the missionaries put a slight change to it and added an 'h' to make more "English" I guess. We have a photocopy of the seal of the queen that was given to my ancestor so that he can stay in Trinidad. That is the only information that I have on him. If anyone out there knows anything about this very small piece of history please contact by e-mail, I am desperate to find out about him and what he was all about and also to find out if there are any decendants back in Saudi Arabia who could possibly be related to me. I thank those of you out there who took the time to read this and to those who may have information on my search.
Again thank you very much.
