Yes, this is in Goldie's Vol. III, also known as "A supplement to Vols. I and II." It is an excerpt from a letter written to Goldie by "Betty" Alice Elizabeth Demorest of R.D.#1, Belding, Ionia Co., MI, received 4 Aug 1972.

This is the paragraph you referred to:

"There was a great Gold Fever in 1849 in California & Samuel Demarest went overland (his son Lyman David went by boat around Cape Horn) and came back across the Isthmus reveling in the fine nuts & fruit. He brought his daughters earrings & the sons gold nuggets. He was gone about 2 years."

The entire letter takes up three typewritten pages (pica) in the book. I can scan and e-mail all three pages to you if you like.
