OK, now I can help you, although not a whole lot <G>.

Goldie had a lot of data on the descendants of Aaron and Mary Nickerson Satterlee, but never could find Aaron's parents. So this is a disconnected line in her research. It appears in Vol. III, pp. 238 ff.

Goldie used an alphanumeric system whereby the letter designates the generation, starting with A as the immigrant generation, and the number is the order of birth in the family, as far as that is known. She more or less arbitratily put Aaron in the D generation, figuring he was b. about 1793 in Connecticut or NY. So Aaron is D-? because we don't know anything about his parents or brothers/sisters. I'll use her system because it helps me keep the generations straight.

"Considerable research has been accomplished on this next group of families, descendants of Aaron and Mary Nickerson Satterlee, yet we do not know who Aaron's parents were or if they connect up with A-2 Nicholas and Mary Satterlee's branch from Rhode Island or Connecticut."

"The first mention of Aaron & Mary Satterlee's name was found in the Grantor Records of Onondaga Co., NY in the index to deeds of Elb. [sic], book #78, p. 99, when they sold some property to J. Stevenson. We found that he and Mary were next found in the 1860 census of Deer Creek Twp, Bates County, at Crescent, Missouri. Aaron was then 67 years old and Mary was listed as being age 56, with only 3 children in their household at that time: Leonard, 18yo, b. in NY; Mary C., 8yo, b. in Grundy Co., Ill., and Joshua Samuel, 5 yo, b. in Grundy Co., Ill. These last two were grandchildren. They [Aaron & Mary] were reported to have had 8 children, 5 sons and 3 daughters, but their order of birth is not known."

"'History of Bates Co.," Deer Creek Twp., Bates Co., Mo., states that Aaron Satterlee and Mary Nickerson moved their family to Waponsee Twp, Grundy Co., Ill. in 1850. They lived on a farm there until 1857, when they removed to Bates Co., Missouri."

Their children were (per Goldie, Vol. III, p. 38):

E-1 Aziel "Ace" "Asa" Satterlee, b. c. 1824, Onondaga Co., NY
E-2 Orren or Orin, b. 16 Aug 1827, Onondaga Co., NY
E-3 William Henry, b. c. 1832, Onondaga Co., NY
E-4 Mary, no data
E-5 Aaron J. (II), b. 5 Apr 1840, Onondaga Co., NY
E-6 Leonard, b. c. 1842, Onondga Co., NY
E-7 Daughter, no data
E-8 Daughter, no data

Keith Hayes, who hangs out on this board from time to time, says one of the daughters was his great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth (Betsy) M. Satterlee, b. May 12, 1836 in NY. I would guess she is probably Goldie's E-4 Mary, since she would have been born between William and Aaron Jr.

From the History of Bates County, Mo., Goldie quotes, "E-5 Aaron J (II) Satterlee was 10 years old when his parents removed from NY to Grundy Co., Ill., where he was reared to manhood and educated in the common schools there and lived on the farm in Ill. until 1857, when he came to Bates Co., Mo., resuming the occupation of farming and stock raising with his father. He married Phoebe Jane Cook there in 1859. On the 17 June 1861 Aaron J. Satterlee enlisted in Co. B. of the Missouri State Home Guard. He was mustered out in 1862, and then enlisted in the 14th Kansas Cavalry and discharged 9 Aug. 1865. In 1880 Aaron J. embarked in the grocery business in Archie, Cass Co., Mo. for only one year before removing to Adrian, Bates Co., Mo."

I've looked through all the pages of the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Aaron and Mary, and don't see your James Orville anywhere. Curiously, there is a Clyde Satterlee who was b. in Ft. Scott on 12 Jan. 1904 (rather than 1906). There is also a Clarence Harlan Satterlee who was b. in Ft. Scott on 9 May 1904. These are the only descendants I see who were b. in Ft. Scott.

This is what Goldie has on E-3 William Henry and May Satterlee. They had four children:

F-1 James Satterlee, b. 8 Oct. 1854 in Illinois, m. 13 Sep 1874 to Catherine Burns

F-2 Susan Satterlee, b. c. 1856, m. 17 1878 in Mo. to Frank Kauffer

F-4 Amos Satterlee, b. 22 Feb 1860, m. #1 on 16 Aug 1889 to America Stillwell, m. #2 date unknown to Emma C. Cowdery

"James Satterlee and his brother Amos came to Missouri from Illinois. The only record of Amos is that he was an attorney in Butler, Bates County, Mo. James married Catherine Burns of Pennsylvania. Catherine died while living with her son Chester Satterlee, perhaps in Pitcher, Oklahoma."

F-1 James Satterlee (D-? Aaron/E-3 William Henry/) and Catherine Burns had 6 children:

F-4 Amos Satterlee (D-? Aaron/E-3 William Henry) was b. 22 Feb 1860 at Adrian, Bates Co., Mo., and d 7 Feb 1945, also at Adrian. He was m. #1 on 16 Aug 1880 at Butler, Mo. to America Stillwell, and #2 to Emma C. Cowdery.

Amos Satterlee was postmaster, Justice of the Peace, and mayor of Adrian. He died at age 86 and was buried beside his two wives and his mother-in-law in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Mo. Amos and his first wife adopted a boy, whose name had been Ollie Black, and gave him the name of Raymond A. Satterlee.

G-1 Raymond A. Satterlee was b. 1 Oct 1893 at Lowry City, Mo., d. 27 Mar 1929, buried in Lamar, Barton Co., KS. He was m. 18 Jun 1917 to Pearl Olive Horton at Lamar. They had two children:

If none of the above gets you anywhere, I do have a lot more information on descendants of other children of Aaron and Mary Nickerson Satterlee, so if you gave me some names of later generations it might help identify something. The Clyde Satterlee who was born in Ft. Scott in 1904 is a grandson of E-6 Leonard Satterlee, who died before W.W. I and is buried in Ft. Scott. That's Keith Hayes's line and he may have more detail on it than I do.
