Rachel:
There is not much I can add except the following which was taken from one of my databases:
MADISON CO, KY:
1900: Census – 1900:
“No Satterfield families/persons listed in this census.
1910: Census – 1910:
Bear Wallen Precinct, Dist. #71
88-94
William H. Satterfield 49 m Tn Tn Va farmer
Elizabeth Satterfield 39 f wife Tn Tn Tn
Nathaniel Satterfield* 11 m son Ky Tn Tn
Benjamin E. Satterfield 9 m son “
Sarah M. Satterfield 7 f dau “
Amanada M. Satterfield 3 f dau “
Carlo Satterfield 10/12 m son “
James A. Nickels 23 m brother-in-lawTn Tn Tn farmer
Comment:By reviewing this census I assume that Elizabeth Satterfield’s maiden name was Nickels.
131-139, Dist. #5, Kingston Twp., S.D. 8, E.D. 72, pg. 7B
Jas. W. Lewis 68 w/m, marr. once, 11 yrs.,Ky Ky Ky farmer
Alice Lewis 45 w/f, wife, “““, “
Nora Lewis* 11 w/f, niece, “
*This is the woman who married Nathan Satterfield. There were several Lewis families in this county.Unable to determine who Nora’s parents were by this census. However, James W. Lewis is her uncle. Therefore, Nora’s father and James would have been brothers.Too many Lewis men in the 1880 & 1870 census to make a final determination.Should review Nora’s death certificate.
Census – 1920:
215-215 pg 12A Bear Wallen Twp.
Nathan Satterfield* 19 m Ky Ky Ky farm laborer
Nora Satterfield 20 f wife “
Maricy Alexander 49 m boarder, div. “
32-32 pg 2B Bear Wallen Twp.
William H. Satterfield**59 m Tn Tn Va farmer
Elizabeth Satterfield 48 f wife Tn Tn Tn
Benjamin E. Satterfield 17 m son Ky Tn Tn
Sarah W. Satterfield 15 f dau “
Amanda M. Satterfield 13 f dau “
Carlow Satterfield 10 m son “
Ada Satterfield 7 f dau “
Maggie M. Satterfield 5 f dau “
50-50
James Nickels 35 m
Margaret Nickels 24 f wife
Sarah Nickels 5 f dau
James Nickels and Elizabeth Satterfield are brother and sister.
Comment:*Nathan Satterfield married Nora Lewis, and they had at least the following children:Chester L. Satterfield, Opal Satterfield, Patsy Satterfield, and Alice Jean Satterfield.Chester married Myrtle Wilson in 1941, and they had six children:Cathleen Satterfield, Earl Ray Satterfield, Roy Satterfield, Geraldine Satterfield, Bennie Bob Satterfield, Larry Chester Satterfield. It appears that William and Elizabeth Satterfield were Nathan’s father.E. L.
Per the Kentucky Death Index, Nathan Satterfield died on Jul 13, 1976 in this county, age – 76.Volume 45, Certificate #22159.Nora L. Satterfield died in Apr 9, 1982 in Ohio but her residence was Madison Co., Ky., Volume 904, Certificate #716.
Research Notes:
William H. Satterfield, as listed in this county, MAY BE the same person who is listed in the 1880 Union Co., Tn. census as follows:
124-141 Dist #1
James Satterfield 43 m Tn Tn Tn Farmer
Mary Satterfield 37 f wife Va -Va
William H. Satterfield* 18 m son Tn Tn Va
Lucinda Satterfield 13 f dau “
Robert Satterfield 11 m son “
Samuel Satterfield 10 m son “
Mahala Satterfield 7 f dau “
Rutha A. Satterfield 6 f dau “
Mary Satterfield 4 f dau “
Henry Satterfield 2 m son “
James Satterfield (age 43) was the son of Greenberry and Lucinda Dyer Satterfield from Grainger Co., Tn.Other Satterfield researchers state that William H. Satterfield*, as listed above, was William “Harrison” Satterfield, and he died in Monroe Co., Tn. in 1924. However, I beginning to doubt this.I suspect that the Harrison Satterfield who is listed in the 1920 Monroe Co., Tn. census was the son of James L. & Abagail Satterfield from Lumpkin Co., Ga.
AND
The Elizabeth Nickels Satterfield*, who is listed in this county, MAY BE the person who is listed in the 1880 Roane Co., Tn. as follows:
198-199 Dist. #4
John J. Nickels 35 m Tn Tn Tn laborer
Sarah Nickels 34 f wife “
Mary J. Nickels 13 f dau “
Margaret A. Nickels 11 f dau “
Elizabeth L. Nickels* 9 f dau “
Jo____? Nickels 8 f dau “
George Nickels 5 m son “
Lily F. Nickels 2 f dau “
Martha Nickels 5/12 f dau
Reviewing the entire 1880 Tennessee census this was the only “Elizabeth Nickels” (Nichols, etc) listed who was nine years old. There were two others but they were five and twelve years old. But, research should continue…………….
