Roger:
Your posting was very through and very clear.I have spent about two hours searching my Satterfield/Sutterfield databases, and also reviewed some additional census that I did not have listed. And, have come up with very litte.
In the 1910 Atoka Co.,OK census there is a SAMUEL J. SATTERFIELD listed as the head of household:
27-28, Stringtown Twp., pg. 2B
Samuel J. Satterfield29 w/m, marr 1 - 10 yrGa Ga Ga
Athy Satterfield 25 w/f, wife, marr 1 - 10 yr, 3 ch/3liv Ar
Mary Satterfield 4 w/f, dau OK Ga Ar
Josie Satterfield 5 w/f, dau"
Edgar M. Satterfiel 2 w/m, son"
I cannot locate this man in my databases, and this surprises me.
In the 1920 census for this county:
208-209, pg. 10A, Atoka twp.

Note:Again, I could not locate George or Josiah in my databases.

Bert M. Satterfield 38 w/m, Ar Ga Gafarmer
Sarah E. Satterfield 26 w/f, wife Tn Ar Ar
Dovie Satterfield 5 w/f, dau Ok Ar Tx
Lena M. Satterfield3 w/f, dau "
Edgar M. Satterfield 81 w/m, wid., father Ga SC SC SC
Note:I could not locate Bert or his father, Edgar in my databases. And, could not locate Edgar in the 1850 Ga. census.
I suspect that Sam, George H., and Bert M. Satterfield are related.
You ask if I thought Josiah Satterfield, as listed above, was the son of William W. Satterfield (Sutterfield) and Mary Lawrence.I believe this is a very real possibility.

You also ask if I though William W. Satterfield -Sutterfield was related to the family of Peter Moore Sutterfield.Yes, but I don't know how.
Peter Moore Sutterfield was my 4th gr grandfather. He was b. abt 1775, married Mary Rogers on Jul 17 1801, Laurnes Co., S.C.Moved to Giles Co., Tn around 1809; served in the War of 1812 while living in Giles Co.; moved to Lauderdale Co., Ala. around 1824; Wayne Co., Tn. prior to 1830; and finally to Searcy Co., Ar. in the early 1840's.He died there in 1846.Six grown sons and one daughter also moved to Searcy Co. in the 1840's.
All the records I located on Peter, prior to 1840, his surname was spelled "Saterfield or Satterfield" by court clerks, census takers, etc. However, after his arrival in Arkansas his surname was spelled SUTTERFIELD.I believe this was his name at birth.
There was a Baptist Preacher named Oran Mayberry who lived in Searcy Co. in the middle 1800's.He conducted many of the Sutterfield marriages in the 1850's and 1860's.Oran also was well known in the family of William W. Sutterfield. In fact, William named his last son "Oran Mayberry Sutterfield.Another reason why I suspect Peter Moore Sutterfield and William W. Sutterfield were some how related.
In the year 2000 I published a genealogy on Peter Moore Sutterfield. And, in 2004 I published another book - "Satterfield - Sutterfield, American Records.
Roger, I will do some additional research on the families you posted in your message, and if I come up with anything new I notify you.Maybe you could do the same????
