Here our family's generations were born,
They were satisfied with Sarvijoki's village site.
Here were born in time Matti and Jaakko,
The latter became the family founder.
His son Herman and his wife Anna-Briitta,
In due time gave gifts to found families,
Among Sarvelas at Papa Matts cradles swayed,
A mother and a daughter at the same time mothered descendents.
Trusting in God, small fields were cultivated.
The Word was cultivated and tender souls cared for.
Childeren were reared in prayerful fear of the Lord God.
With the hope that they would become good people.
So the childeren in turn grew and matured,
Always giving respect to the seniors,
The Sarvela family continues to live,
The holy memory of the family is ever with us.
We hold dear the familiar family tree,
Which in time lived here in these cottages.
Although our family seniors have disappeared,
The lines of our family generations have multiplied.
Widely scattered are our family childeren,
Disturbed by life storms and whirl winds.
Some are here, there, beyond bays and oceans,
Many live unaware of each others existence.
Our family tree is basically Finnish,
Of old, solid, rural cultural base,
Additionally of good northern stock,
For whom life's independence is natural.
Our family tree chips originate in pine trees,
Thus it is ever good to remember,
That we should live as honorable people,
Whatever may be our life's vocational calling.
There is a turn for each one to be a link in the chain,
The original link of which is embedded in soil,
To which our one link will eventually become embedded,
As it sinks with the family tree chain.
